Internship Sectors

TIC TWO partners with companies who are able to offer a valuable working experience for our young professionals, providing a platform where they are able to acquire, learn and develop the vital skills that are needed in the world of international business.

We’re one of the very few, if not the only company in China that tells who our participants intern with BEFORE they pay the final fee.  Why?

Simple…

1. WE LISTEN to what industry / function you are looking to gain experience in and we organise it based on those discussions,FIRST TIME

2.  WE’RE CONFIDENT in the quality of internships we organise.

We work across a wide range of sectors, giving our interns the choice of industry they are looking to gain meaningful experience within.  As well as the below sectors we have also placed interns into the following fields: Design & Architecture, F&B, Graphic Design, Health Care, Retail, Sports Management and Travel & Tourism.

Accounting & Finance

Chinese accounting standards originated in a socialist period in which the government was the sole owner of industry.  Unlike Western accounting standards this meant that accounts were less a tool to show profit and loss but instead an inventory of assets available to a company.  Furthermore, Chinese accounting standards did not include an account of the debts they held on the balance sheet.

In 2006 the Chinese government introduced a revised accounting law, adopting a significant number of the accounting standards laid out by the International Accounting Standards Board, which marked a large step forward to the continuing integration of world trade and capital marketing.

TIC TWO has organised various accountancy and finance internships in Shanghai within high quality firms including some of the big 4 accountancy firms, several large banks and some of the world's largest firms finance departments .

Thoughts?

"TIC TWO was able to deliver an amazing internship experience for me. I was assigned the role of Commercial Finance Intern within a huge multinational.  From day one I was given real responsibilities which included (but not limited to) data retrieval, data manipulation and analysis, financial reporting, budget forecasting and actuals, spreadsheet templates and attending management meetings. Not once was I required to get coffee or make a single photocopy—TIC TWO ensures you are placed within a firm that will give you the most learning opportunity and experience.

In addition to the actual internship itself, TIC TWO facilitated your social integration into the Chinese culture. Alastair (program director) is a delight and takes every precaution to ensure you are not wanting for anything. He is available around the clock for information, directions, recommendations or even a chat to alleviate homesickness.

All in all, I would definitely recommend any student or graduate to undertake an internship with TIC TWO.  I learnt so much from my placement and the friendships and networks I established during my stay are invaluable."

Human Resources Management

HR is arguably one of the most challenging industries in China.  Due to acute talent shortages, high attrition rates, and the ease with which skilled workers can jump from one job to another, companies in China struggle to attract, train, and retain the employees that they need to gain a competitive edge in human capital.  Time and time again we hear how this HR challenge is both large and small firm’s biggest concern.

Due to these major challenges this has provided much growth within the industry, allowing for corporate training firms, recruiters, HR consultancy’s and talent management businesses to all get in on the action.

TIC TWO has organised numerous placement within HR departments of SME’s as well as some of the world’s largest firms.  To give our interns a wider perspective of the HR industry in China we have arrangement placement in HR Management Consultants, giving the opportunity to face the various aforementioned challenges head on.

IT & Technology

For many years the Far East has been synonymous with advances in the IT and Technology sector; often providing products and services into the, perceived, more developed Western world. Despite early China’s reported lack of appetite for developments in IT and technology, the Government in recent decades has placed emphasis on investment, reform and socio-economic growth with dramatic results.

China is now positioned as one of the leading global economies and a significant power within the IT and Technology space. These advances are allowing China to achieve its economic and political goals whilst also providing a sense of national prestige.

TIC TWO has organised a number of IT and Technology-related internships in Shanghai with a  number of reputable and credible organisations, providing opportunities for interns to learn how IT and Technology is developed and deployed in China.

I have had an unforgettable experience and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the TIC TWO team for accepting me onto the program and I look forward to recommending TIC TWO to other people.

Journalism

China's media development and journalism education have changed to meet new demands brought by political and economic reforms. Predicting a need for 5,000 trained journalists per year in the 21st century, dramatic developments in journalism education and practice are occurring. The numbers of students enrolling at journalism schools has increased nearly five-fold over the last 10 years and the numbers of journalists looking for work is higher than ever.

With a state owned media now less prevalent than in the 1960s and 1970s the opportunity for growth and expansion within the Chinese journalism market is endless. TIC TWO has organised successful and exciting internships with some of the most well thought of news and media firms that China has to offer.

“Shanghai is one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the world and I can think of no better way of experiencing it than through the TIC TWO programme. While this has been great fun, I can’t see any better way to spend three months before heading back to study Economics and Chinese at Edinburgh. I’ve met new friends, had some great nights, traveled China and had my first experience of working and living in a world financial center. I will return home with some great stories to tell and could never have dreamed of loving my time here as much as I have. My time in Shanghai will stay with me forever and I could never have done it without TIC TWO.”

TIC TWO China Internship Program Name: Scott Binnie

Age: 23

University:  Queen Margaret University, UK

Course: BA of Business Management

Placement:  Supply Chain Management FTSE Listed FMCG

Job Responsibilities:

Visited major retail stores across East China to conduct research using numerical data from research staff and findings

Investigate and analyse cycle of inventory and supply chain

Create loss tree and highlight areas of loss

Compiling findings and suggestions in a final presentation to Supply Chain Director and Chief Operating Officer for Asia Pacific

Thoughts?

I could not recommend the TIC TWO program with more sincerity, pound for pound it has been both the most enjoyable and the most beneficial experience of my life to date. Success comes in many forms, through achievements and past experiences and experiences like this are a contribution to both.

After specifying my interest in supply chain management, TIC TWO organised a one month internship with one of the world’s largest FMCG companies working on an ‘on-shelf availability’ project which had previously been implemented in other continents as part of a global strategy on supply chain improvement.

My role was to research using numerical data from research staff and findings, visiting stores and other initiatives and then compiling my findings and suggestions in a final presentation to senior management. Upon presenting my findings, management forwarded my work onto the global team to expose my suggestions further and they informed me that they would be recommending me to the HQ in London for future recognition.

I also managed to talk with the North Asia CEO, who also sat on the board of the PLC company, on my penultimate day to display my work and explain a little about myself, he was also happy to hear my opinions and feedback on the company and offered me some sound advice.

TIC TWO have great networks out here and can really help you to develop good contacts if you were ever considering moving out to China. Whilst you’re here they will make sure you are kept busy will all things Shanghai and they are always happy to help you will the most trivial of questions. I was surprised to discover that they were keen to receive feedback throughout my internship on how it was going and how I could maximise my time there.

I believe that this internship has demonstrated to me that opportunities are there if you approach things with confidence and an open mind. I will not only take valuable work experience from this but friends, contacts, cultural experiences and a feeling of achievement. Thanks TIC TWO!
